FAMILY: Malvaceae

ORIGIN: Nigeria

APPEARANCE:  dark red color

TASTE: slightly acidic and sweet

HEALING POWERS: rich in vitamin C, helps to detoxify the body and speed it up, lowers blood pressure, helps restore the liver

PROCESSING METHOD: the flowers are harvested and dried in a dehydrator

  • hibiscus flowers last only one day

    • Agua de Jamaica is an iced sweet tea made from hibiscus, and is a popular drink that is an alternative to juice in Mexico

    Usage

    COOKERY: 
    • natural coloring in jams, soups, juices and salads
    CATERING/HOSPITALITY: 
    • used to prepare various teas and lemonades instead of lemons and lime
    • natural dye and cocktail decoration that gives a slightly pink to red color when held longer in a drink
    • complements nicely with Mediterranean herbs and dehydrated fruits
