FAMILY: Rosaceae

ORIGIN: Iran

APPEARANCE: dark red color 

TASTE: flowery-sweet taste

HEALING POWERS: contains vitamins A and C, has diuretic, soothing, antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties, promotes digestion and hair growth

PART OF PLANT: flower; bud

PROCESSING METHOD: buds are picked early, before they bloom, and then dried


Fun fact

  • roses come in all colors except black. black roses are actually a dark, dull red color

Usage

COOKERY: 

  • used whole, chopped or ground in a powder, as a spice and decoration, especially in desserts

CATERING/HOSPITALITY: 

  • decoration for warm and cold beverages, and cocktails with prosecco
  • ingredient for making rose syrup
  • most often combined with citruses but also with other less complex spices

  • dark, dry place at room temperature
  • shelf life: 24 months
