PLACE OF PRODUCTION: Croatia

APPEARANCE: dull purple color

TASTE: earthy 

HEALING POWERS: super-ingredient, an excellent source of energy, protects against premature aging, a cure for anemia, detoxifies the body, stimulates kidney and liver function, normalizes blood pressure

PROCESSING METHOD: the slices are dried in a dehydrator under controlled conditions

  • Women used to use beet powder as blush

Usage

COOKERY: 

  • the root is eaten boiled, roasted, pickled or raw, and young beetroot leaves can be added to salads while the ripe ones are cooked and are a good substitute for spinach
  • soups, jams, ice cream, sweets

CATERING/HOSPITALITY: 

  • decoration and ingredient in cocktails based on wine, like dark port, tequila, vodka, but also non-alcoholic cocktails
  • ingredient in various juices, lemonades, tonics, which gives it a distinctive pink color
