PLACE OF PRODUCTION: Croatia

APPEARANCE: dark interior and yellow skin

TASTE: citrusy and crisp

HEALING POWERS: antidepressant, antiseptic, diuretic, improves digestion, helps with colds and flu, temperature, loss of appetite, stress, anxiety and depression

PART OF PLANT: fruit

PROCESSING METHOD: the slices are dried in a dehydrator under controlled conditions




Fun fact

  • also known as the citrus prince for his important role in the perfume industry
  • bergamot oil, in addition to black tea, is a main ingredient in EarlGrey tea. This kind of tea was allegedly made by placing black tea next to the bergamot, which resulted in aroma blending




Usage

COOKERY:

  • it is not used as food, but as a flavor-balancing spice
  • used for sauces, marinades, marmalades and jams, various desserts and ice creams

CATERING/HOSPITALITY: 

  • ingredient and decoration for warm beverages like black tea and cold beverages like iced tea, water, various cocktails, liquours and spritzes 
  • compliments nicely with Mediterranean herbs and Juniper
  • combines perfectly with gin, vermouth, white rum, vodka and prosecco drinks
