Persian rose buds - red (Rosa x damascena)

The Persian rose, as its name implies, originates in the Persian city of Shiraz. It is believed that the red rose is the most popular among all roses and its long spiny stem and dark green leaves characterize it. It comes from the Rosaceae family, and the buds are picked early (before they bloom), in order to preserve their form, color and aroma. Persian rose bush grows from 1 to 5 meters in height. Its numerous stems are covered with sharp hooked thorns that help the plant to climb and intertwine with other plants.

Persian rose buds are the best choice for use in the catering/hospitality industry because of the specific aroma and medicinal properties that no other rose contains. They contain high levels of vitamins A and C and have soothing, diuretic and laxative agents. Persian rose buds can be used whole, chopped, or ground into a powder.

These rose buds are a popular addition in a variety of cocktails, such as gin and tonic, as well as in various sweets where they become a decoration or an actual ingredient in the recipe. It is characterized by a floral sweet taste and an aromatic scent, which makes it worthwhile to pay attention to the amount being used. Pink buds generally have a more intense scent than red buds. When we only want to change the appearance of the drink, but not the scent, we use red buds that do not release color into the drink. Persian rose buds can be used to make rose syrup, which is used as an ingredient in cocktails with Prosecco. An ice cube with a Persian rose bud frozen in it makes for an interesting detail in a drink.

Apart from the catering/hospitality industry, Persian rose buds are also popular in aromatherapy and perfumes. Large portions of Persian rose buds are used in the cosmetics industry due to their pleasant scent and the effect that they have on skin and hair. Thus, various tonics, creams and other preparations can be made from Persian rose buds.
